The demand flow regulators differ from the preset flow regulators by virtue of the fact that they rely on the pump draw to allow the release of the gas. 2. Reactiveness

Some reactive gases such as Phosphine (PH3), Hydrogen Chloride (HCL) and Ammonia (NH3) can corrode the interiors of standard gas regulators. As such, gas cylinders containing such reactive gases require regulators with thick internal coating of stainless steel. In addition, highly reactive gases tend to leave residues on the interiors of the regulators, and it’s thus recommendable to use a different gas regulator for each of these gases instead of sharing them among cylinders containing different reactive gases.

3. Threading

Regulator threading is an important consideration in regulator selection. Calibration cylinders often have two types of threading systems. The small 34L cylinders have threads on their exterior, whereas; the large 103L Aluminum and Steel cylinders have internal threading. A gas regulator with internal threads can’t simply suit a gas cylinder with internal threads, and vice-versa. Conversion adaptors are unavailable and if you experience incompatibility in your set-up, then the only option that you have is to replace the gas cylinder or the regulator.

Luckily, the identification of a regulator’s threading is simple. 58L and 34L reusable cylinders always use C-10 regulators with male threading. The 34L steel gas cylinders use the CCA-600 regulators with female threading.

By keeping in mind the reactive nature of the gas, the flow rate of the regulator and the threading of the regulator, you can avoid costly mistakes when buying and trying to match the threading on your calibration gas cylinders and regulators.
